How to Play Idiom Solitaire
Idiom Solitaire (成语接龙) is a brilliant educational game that tests your knowledge of traditional Chinese four-character idioms (成语).
Basic Rules
- The Grid: You are presented with a crossword-style grid containing intersecting words. Some Chinese characters are missing.
- The Bank: At the bottom of the screen, you have a bank of Chinese characters.
- The Goal: Drag characters from the bank into the empty slots on the grid so that every horizontal and vertical line forms a valid, correctly spelled four-character Chinese idiom.
- Victory: The level is cleared when all empty slots are filled and all idioms are validated.
Strategies
- Start with the Familiar: Scan the board for idioms where 3 out of 4 characters are already provided. These are usually easy to guess.
- Cross-Referencing: The most powerful hint is the intersection. If an empty box is shared by both a horizontal and a vertical idiom, the character you place there MUST make sense for both idioms simultaneously.
- Learn as you Play: Every time you complete a level, take a moment to read the definitions of any idioms you didn't know. It's a great way to expand your vocabulary!
