About Hashi (Hashiwokakero / Bridges)
Hashi, formally known as Hashiwokakero and commonly referred to as Bridges, is a fiercely engaging logic puzzle originating from Japan. Much like Sudoku, it requires absolutely no mathematical calculations. Instead, it tests your deductive reasoning, spatial planning, and topological logic. Your mission is to connect a scattered archipelago of numbered islands using a network of bridges, creating a single, fully interconnected system. Core Rules & Construction Laws
The puzzle is played on a rectangular grid with various circular \"islands,\" each displaying a number. You draw bridges between these islands by clicking, but you must strictly adhere to the following laws of physics:
- Number Matching: The total number of bridges connected to a specific island must exactly match the number written on that island.
- Double Bridge Limit: You can build at most two bridges (a single or a double bridge) between any two specific islands.
- Straight Lines Only: Bridges can only run horizontally or vertically. Most importantly, bridges can never cross each other, nor can they cross over an island.
- Global Interconnection: The most critical and often overlooked ruleβwhen the puzzle is finished, you must be able to travel from any island to any other island in the puzzle by walking over the bridges. No isolated sub-groups or \"closed loops\" are allowed!
Advanced Deduction Patterns
Guessing is a recipe for disaster on larger Hashi boards. True puzzle masters rely on guaranteed logic patterns:
- The Corner 4 & The Edge 6: An island with a \"4\" in the very corner of the board only has two valid directions. Therefore, it is mathematically forced to have two double-bridges. Similarly, an edge \"6\" and a center \"8\" must have double bridges extending in every possible direction.
- The Corner 3 & The Edge 5: A corner \"3\" must connect to its two available neighbors with at least one bridge each. Drawing these \"guaranteed\" single bridges early on provides a solid foundation for further deductions.
- Isolation Prevention (The Loop Rule): Always be careful not to prematurely connect two \"1\" islands together, or connect two \"2\" islands with a double bridge. Doing so creates an isolated, closed-off circuit, violating the Global Interconnection rule. You can use this restriction to logically prove that certain bridges cannot exist.
